Somaliland announces tough decision against UN

Somaliland has once again announced that it has suspended all cooperation with the United Nations and its activities in Somaliland.
Somaliland Minister for Information, Saleban Ali Koore told the media that UN projects had been suspended after they saw them as undermining their independence.

He said Somaliland, considering its independence, had once again suspended all UN projects in its territories.
“We have asked ourselves, do you take anything that harms your independence and the will of the people, which are small projects funded by the UN, or do you protect the independence of the people, and do not die for UN projects,” Said Koore.

He added that UN projects violate the will of the Somaliland people as they are politicized. The minister never said what kind of projects were suspended.

It is not the first time Somaliland has stopped UN projects in its territories. The first time it announced it was suspending cooperation with the United Nations was in 2019.

Somaliland, which claims to be an independent state, has strongly opposed the transfer of aid through the Somali federal government, a major factor in the UN-Somaliland conflict.
