Tensions remain high between Puntland PSF officials and the Puntland government in Bossaso, the capital of Bari region, following President Saciid Deni’s dismissal of PSF Director General Mohamud Osman Diyano.

The PSF and its officers vacated the battlefield on the outskirts of Bossaso last week, and have made it clear that they are not under the command of Puntland President Saciid Abdullahi Deni.

Reports indicate that tensions between the two sides have been mediated by the United States since it trains and pays their salaries. Senior officials from the US AFRICOM Command are expected to arrive in the Puntland capital of Garowe this week.

The officials will first meet with President Deni in Garowe and then proceed to Bossaso to meet with PSF officials and discuss ways to calm the situation so that there is no fighting in Bossaso, the capital of Bari region.

According to reports, Puntland President Sacid Abdullahi Deni will travel to Bossaso this week to help defuse tensions over the dismissal of PSF Director General Mohamud Osman Diyano.

Although the situation in Bossaso is calm, the Puntland forces and those of President Sacid Abdullahi Deni are still in control, with some saying that Bosaso is in a state of panic.
