Jubbaland state first vice president, Mohamud Sayid Aden has said that severe drought has affected pastoralists in the Gedo region, wiping hundreds of livestock in the region.

Speaking to the BBC Somali Service, the first Vice President of the Jubbaland state said the lack of early and short rainfall has led to the drought situation in the region, noting that areas far from the Juba River were the worst hit.

The Vice president further said that relief efforts for the Somali citizens whose livestock are at risk of drought in Gedo region should not be politicized.

He said hundreds of livestock have been lost and that humanitarian assistance to the affected people is being blocked and hampered by the federal government of Somalia.
