The Special Representative of the Chairperson of the African Union Commission (SRCC) for Somalia and head of AMISOM, Ambassador Francisco Madeira, and a delegation from the African Union Peace and Security Council (AU-PSC) are currently holed up in Halane in Mogadishu to discuss the future of AMISOM.
The meeting will focus on African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM) future and how the Somali National Security Forces will take over security from AMISOM.
The members of the AU Peace and Security Council delegation are led by the Egyptian Ambassador to Ethiopia and Permanent Representative to the African Union, Dr. Mohamed Omar Gad.
He was briefed on the political and security situation in Somalia and AMISOM’s support for the upcoming elections.
The meeting was also attended by officials from the Federal Government of Somalia.
It is noteworthy that in recent months, the Somali government and the African Union have not agreed on how to approach the future of AMISOM.
