Jubaland Attorney General to appoint special prosecutor for media matters.

06 November, 2021, Kismaayo: Jubaland Attorney General, Avv. Mohamed Sheikh Osman, today received at his office the officials of the Journalists Association of Jubaland. The Attorney General firstly apologized for his absence from JAJ Congress and congratulated the elected officials on the heavy responsibilities entrusted to them. The Attorney General who also praised the process of the organisation’s election said that he has always stood by the journalists and the media in Jubaland. He also promised to set up a special office to prosecute cases against journalists and media outlets.

“I am happy that the Journalists Association of Jubaland is visiting my office today,” he said and continued “I have invited you because there are two reasons, to congratulate you on your success and the organization you have created and secondly the board you have elected” Avv. Osman pledged to appoint especial prosecutor for journalists affairs “I can also tell you that I will appoint a special prosecutor for the journalists issues who will work closely with your association”.

The Attorney General’s remarks appeared to encourage the work of the Journalists Association of jubaland and he strongly assured that he would not allow journalists to be abused. He called on the security agencies to inform the journalists’ association about the allegations against the journalists and media outlets before any such arrests are made so that the association can take action and resolve the issue in regards.

On his remarks khadar Iman Dhaqan the Chairman of the Journalists Association of Jubaland thanked the warm reception of the Attorney General and welcomed the promise to appoint a special prosecutor for media and journalists issues “I am really happy that the Attorney General of the Jubaland State has invited us to his office” khadar said and added into that “It is gratifying that the prosecutor has promised to appoint a special prosecutor for media matters and encouraged us in our work for the community.
