100 families displaced by the ravaging drought in Jubbaland state seek shelter in IDP camps in Kismayo

One hundred families displaced by the ravaging drought situation currently plaguing many parts of Jubbaland state have sought shelter in an IDP camp on the outskirts of Kismayo town.

The 100 families have lost their livestock to the biting drought situation in the Lower Juba region are said to be in the camps.

Jubbaland Deputy Minister for Trade and Industry, Bishar Adan, who was among the officials who inspected the families displaced by the drought said the people were suffering from the effects of the drought and needed immediate assistance.

He called on the government ,Somali aid agencies and business people to provide relief to their drought-affected families.

Niimo Ibrahim Yusuf, a former member of the upper house of parliament and one of the officials who visited the people displaced by the drought has called for immediate assistance to the families affected by the drought, saying they are in dire situation which needs urgent intervention.

There has been a severe drought in parts of Jubbaland state affecting people as well as animals, with the worst affected being the lower and middle Juba regions.
