The Minister for Ports and Maritime Transport of the Puntland Administration, Mohamed Abdi Majino and the Deputy Minister for Planning, Economic Development and International Relations and Mayor of Bossaso Abdiqani Ahmed Ismail (Deera-dile) met with the EU Coast Guard Commander of the Puntland sea waters, Admiral Alejandro Cuerda.
The meeting, which took place aboard an EU naval vessel, discussed strengthening of Puntland’s coastal security co-operation, curbing smuggling, stopping illegal fishing, protecting weapons off the coast of Bossaso as well as other important issues.
The mayor of Bossaso urged the EU Coast Guard to work together to protect and fight against any illegal activities that could lead to insecurity off the coast of Puntland.
In some areas off the coast of Somalia, foreign vessels and boats sometimes fish illegally while some others claim to be fighting Somali pirates.
