A ceremony was held in the Somali capital, Mogadishu which the Federal Government of Somalia reclaimed the responsibility of the Food Security and Nutrition Analysis Unit (FSNAU) and the Somalia Water and Land Data Collection Agency (SWALIM) from the United Nations.
The handover ceremony in Mogadishu was attended by officials from FAO, all of whom were under the auspices of the UN Under-Secretary-General for Somalia, including Minister for Planning, Jamal Mohamed Hassan.
The head of the FAO in Somalia said they had done a lot to improve food and water security and hoped that Somalia would make a difference in the development of these projects.
The Director General of the National Statistics Agency pointed out that the institutions they have taken over are of particular importance to the country and will change much of the information being passed on to Somalia.
Somali President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo praised the efforts of the Somali National Statistics Agency (FSNAU) and (SWALIM) in taking over the reins of the Federal Government of Somalia.
The Somali government has previously taken over other institutions and programs that have been under the control of other agencies and governments for the past 30 years and are now under the direct control of the Somali government.
