Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed says the withdrawal of his troops from Tigray region does not mean the government has failed in the war.

He said the eight-month battle had weakened the Tigrayan forces led by the TPLF.

Speaking in parliament today, Abiy also noted that “Ethiopian forces have the potential to wage another war but security needs to be improved in order for Ethiopia to prosper.”

He also said the best decision was to withdraw troops from Tigray region as it was a plan for the next month.

“Before the ceasefire declaration, making it possible consultation process on Tigray forces took us more than a month”

However, Abiy Ahmed did not mention the terms of the TPLF’s ceasefire.

He said the government has now put an end to the threat posed by the TPLF administration and recovered weapons from a previous military base in Tigray.
