An election consultative council meeting between the Somali prime minister, regional heads and the Governor of Banadir region is expected to open today in the Somali capital Mogadishu.

The conference was scheduled to open yesterday but was canceled due to the absence of regional leaders from Mogadishu.

The presidents of Galmudug, South West, Jubbaland and Puntland are now currently in Mogadishu while the president of Hir-Shabelle is still absent.

The meeting will be chaired by the Somali Prime Minister Mohamed Hussein Roble who is expected to discuss the poll matters, the activities held since the May 27 agreement and the challenges ahead.

Reports last year said that some state leaders wanted a review of the election agreement, wanting the polling stations to be one for each administration, to reduce the pressure they would face.
