The US government is working to improve proposals to deploy dozens of special forces trained and trainers to Somalia to support the Somali nation from terror related insecurity.

Military policy adviser in the US wants the return of US forces in Somalia to prevent new threat from Al-Qaeda affiliated Al-Shabab terror group which has crippled the Somali nation, according to report which has been received by US Department of Defense.

The plan is to consider the possibility of deploying more specialized troops to operate in Somalia.
Pentagon spokesman John F Kerby has however declined to comment on plans to send more troops to Somalia.

Officials working on the proposal say it has not yet been presented to US Secretary of Defense Louis Ostin and it is unclear whether the president will approve it.

US intelligence agencies say the number of Al-Shabab fighters currently ranges from 5,000 to 10,000 in large swathes of southern Somalia, which Somali forces are unable to fight and overcome.

On January 20, when Biden took office, the plan for bombing and ground operations was changed.

Three White House officials say the Biden administration has thwarted three planned air strikes by Al-Shabab, and officials who declined to be named said Biden is considering a few options for Africa and how to deploy troops to Somalia.
