Antonio Guterres re-elected UN Secretary-General

The UN Security Council has last night voted to keep Antonio Guterres in office for the next five years.

Estonian Ambassador to the UN, SEVEN JURGENSON, Chair of the UN Security Council this month, read out UN Security Council Resolution 2580.

He announced the re-election of the UN Secretary-General of Portugal, whose second term will begin on January 1, 2022 and December 2026.

Antonio Guterres, 72, became the ninth Secretary-General of the United Nations in 2017 and was previously the Head of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) for 10 years.
