The United Kingdom, one of the countries supporting the Federal Government of Somalia, has announced that it will soon train Somali government forces in the fight against Somali terror group, Al-Shabaab.

A statement from the UK embassy in Mogadishu said the British government would play its part in the joint fight against Al-Shabaab.

“We are delighted to be playing our part, strengthening the UK’s support for the Somali army, with three separate training programs in Baidoa – aimed at helping to provide effective counter-terrorism operations, and promoting long-term stability in Somalia,” The statement said.

The UK Government also announced that it will soon train 100 members of the Somali National Army in Baidoa, the capital of Bay region, on defense, command and control, tactics, communications and human rights in a bid to improve their anti-Al-Shabaab skills.

The UK government has on several previous occasions trained the Somali government and South West Administration forces at a camp in Baidoa, which has carried out operations against Al-Shabaab in areas of the South West Administration.
