The Puntland regional state administration has called on Somaliland not to escalate the conflict between two clans who are currently fighting in Shidan area in northern Sanaag region.
Puntland presidential spokesman Jama Yusuf Dabarani warned Somaliland against inciting violence, saying residents have long lived in peaceful co-existence.
“We call on Somaliland not to escalate the conflict between the two clans in Shidan area of Sanaag region and we call on the residents to make peace and to stop fighting,” Said Jama Dabarani.
The spokesman of the Puntland presidency said that it is critical that the traditional elders of Shidan area be left to take over the peace process for a peaceful resolution and cessation of the hostilities.
The Puntland administration has recently succeeded in brokering an agreement between two clan militias who recently fought in Shidan area in northern Sanaag region over control of a water pan in the area.
