The much-talked-about meeting of the House of the People which was scheduled to take place today at Villa Hargeisa in Mogadishu has been postponed.

The Speaker of the House of Representatives Mohamed Mursal Abdirahman has recently announced the agenda for today’s meeting as the Coronavirus Infection and Voting for 2 members of the Independent Boundaries Commission, but last night announced that today’s meeting has been postponed to Wednesday.

Reports say that the reason for the postponement was after much talks between the presidents of Galmudug, Hir-Shabelle and Southwest states and the outgoing president Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo and pressure from some representatives of the international community which feared that the Somali nation might sink into a political turmoil.

Some opposition lawmakers said the purpose of the meeting was mainly to extend the term of government institutions and not the said agenda by the speaker.

The speaker of the House of people parliament recently barred 15 lawmakers from attending parliamentary sessions for causing chaos and confusion at the parliamentary meeting which convened recently.
