The outgoing President of the Federal Republic of Somalia Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo has convened an emergency meeting of the Heads of State and Government of the Benadir Region.
A statement from Villa Somalia reads:
1. The President shall convene a meeting of the heads of state and the Benadir region.
2- The conference will be held in Mogadishu, the capital of the country.
3- This consultative meeting will take place from 18-19 February 2021.
4. This consultative meeting is based on the recommendations of the Electoral Technical Committee on the implementation of the agreement reached on 17 September 2020 on the electoral process, which was adopted by both Houses of the Federal Parliament of Somalia.
The Federal Government of Somalia commends the efforts of the Members of the Federal and State Governments of the Electoral Technical Committee who analyzed the obstacles to the implementation of the September 17th Agreement in Baidoa, paving the way for the holding of elections that reflect the country’s democratic progress.
