Somalia: Al-Shabaab Militants Killed in Bombing

The Somali National Army (SNA) in collaboration with Africom Command has carried out an airstrike on an Al-Shabaab bomb-making factory near Jilib district in Middle Jubba region.

A preliminary assessment made by the government confirmed that the strike killed 10 Al-Shabaab militants.

“This factory was famous for producing suicide bombers that Al-Shabaab is using to harm the Somali people and our aim was to destroy them,” Read part of a statement from the Somali National Army.

The command also said that in collaboration with Africom, it is committed to fighting Al-Shabaab and other organizations to save innocent civilians, men, women and children in Somalia and neighboring countries.

The United States, with the help of government forces has occasionally carried out airstrikes in parts of the country coinciding with the recent announcement by the United States that it was withdrawing its troops from Somalia.
