Somali Presidential candidates strongly condemn Gelato Divino restaurant bombing, Mogadishu

Somali presidential candidates have strongly condemned the bombing of the Gelato Divino restaurant in Mogadishu.

The presidential candidates have criticized the Somali government for failing to provide security in the capital adding that the Somali people need to take action against the government laxity.

The chairman of the council of candidates Sharif Sheikh Ahmed called on the security agencies of the Somali government to redouble their efforts to ensure security.

“I condemn the heinous act of terrorism in the attack on the Gelato Divino restaurant in Mogadishu where young people who were important to our country’s future were killed. I extend my condolences to the Somali community in general and to the families of the deceased in particular and wish the injured a speedy recovery”, Said Sharif Sheih Ahmed.

He urged the Government Security Agencies to redouble their efforts to ensure security of the people.

“They should not deviate from the task assigned to them to ensure security especially during the transition period, ”Sharif added.

Dahir Mohamud Gelle, the leader of the Dan Qaran party said it was unfortunate that the youths were killed in the most vicious manner while the government and intelligence agencies are not having any intelligence reports.

“I condemn the heinous act of massacre of innocent youth and the destruction of property of Somali citizens, relatives and friends of those who lost their lives in the explosion at the Mogadishu airport road. Our special condolences go out to Gelato Divino Restaurant and share our grief ”, Said Dahir Gelle.

Wadajir party leader Abdirahman Abdishakur Warsame said the attack killed young people with a bright future and it was unfortunate for the current government.

“We strongly condemns the attack on the restaurant of Gelato Divino. Tonight, young people with a vision for life and a bright future for their country and their people have died. May God have mercy on them all and wishing quick recovery to those injured”, Said Abdirahman Abdishakur.
