Reports from Beledweyne town, the regional capital of Hiran region in central Somalia confirm that heavy rains have hit the town.

The closure of Beledweyne airport is due to the fact that the airport has not been rebuilt for a long time and the roads leading to the airport have been blocked by huge water masses.

“Indeed, the heavy rains in the city and the masses of water have closed the Beledweyne airport today. It is not working and anyone going to Mogadishu will have to use a car until he reaches Guricel and then will board a plane,” said a Beledweyne resident.

Every year when it rains, Beledweyne Airport is always closed down and no planes land due to heavy flooding. BY OSAMAN HUSSEIN ALI
