Azerbaijan and Armenia have reached a new ceasefire agreement late Saturday night, the second attempt in a week to quell the three-week fighting in Nagorno-Karabakh province.
The humanitarian ceasefire between the two countries will begin today, October 18, according to a statement from the Armenian Foreign Ministry.
The announcement comes after Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov spoke by telephone with his counterparts in Azerbaijan and Armenia.
Lavrov and French President Emmanuel Macron have called on the warring parties to abide by the ceasefire agreement.
On Saturday morning, Azerbaijan and Armenia blamed each other for new attacks, fueling violence in the disputed Nagorno-Karabakh region that has been raging for weeks.
