Vegetables and food crops price hike in Kismayo market worries consumers

The prices of vegetables in the port city of Kismayo has increased significantly due to a reduction in the amount of vegetables and groceries that used to be brought to the town’s market.

Among the crops whose prices have increased include onion which is being sold for 30 thousand Somali shillings instead of 20 thousand previously. Also, the price of potatoes has increased and its now priced at 35,000 per kilo in the Kismayo market.

Fadumo Ahmed is one of the women who trade in vegetables at the Kismayo food market. She told Radio Kismayo that the high prices of vegetables and crops are worrying many traders as well as consumers which many at times registers poor sales.

Khadra Farah is one of another trader at the food market. She has invested in agricultural production and regularly brings agricultural food crops to the Kismayo market.

Khadra Farah said that the prices of vegetables and food crops has significantly increased due to the heavy rains that are currently pounding the many parts of Kismayo.
