Reports from areas along the Somali border indicate that Kenya has today morning deployed additional security forces along the Kenya-Somalia border to bolster security along the border during these last days of 2021.
Kenyan police say they are on high alert to prevent possible attacks by Al-Shabaab militants in Somalia.
Kenya has also called on retired soldiers to take part in new security activities along the border.
Kenya’s police chief has called on the public and the security apparatus to be extra vigilant towards the beginning of the festive season and the ushering of the new year.
Roads connecting areas along the border have also been subjected to further security checks, to prevent further Al-Shabaab attacks on people crossing the border.
This is exacerbated by previous border crossings between Al-Shabaab and Kenyan forces that have clashed on several occasions in the North Eastern region.
Residents, on their part, are fearful of the escalating security situation and the deployment of troops along the border.
Al-Shabaab terror militants have recently stepped up its attacks inside Kenya, causing casualties.
