Police in Mogadishu have arrested a TikTok influencer named Hanad Abdirahman Mohamed Gariraye for spreading indecent videos on social media.

In a statement on Sunday, the police command in the Banadir region announced that the Somali Police Force at the Hodan Police Station apprehended the young man for upholding the country’s laws. The police added that legal action would be taken against anyone violating the law and community morals.

The arrest was made following outrage sparked among the Somali community after Gariraye posted videos of himself on social media wearing women’s clothes and dancing.

It comes a few days after the police in Hargeisa arrested Ugbaad Mohamud Abdi, popularly known as Ugbaad Aragsan, on allegations of circulating indecent videos.

The police statement alleged that the content distributed by the singer violated specific cultural and religious norms, particularly regarding modesty and respect for traditional values.
