A delegation led by Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud arrived in Jeddah, the capital of Saudi Arabia, on Tuesday upon an official invitation from King Salman bin Abdul-Aziz Al Saud.
According to Villa Somalia, President Mohamud and King Salman will hold a meeting to strengthen ties and collaborative efforts between both nations, particularly focusing on security and economic progress.
In January, Saudi Arabia affirmed its utmost keenness on the unity of Somalia and the country’s sovereignty, especially after the Ethiopian Prime Minister signed an MoU with the breakaway region of Somaliland, granting Ethiopia commercial and military access to 20 kilometers (12 miles) of Somali coast for 50 years.
In return, Somaliland officials say, landlocked Ethiopia would become the first country to recognise Somaliland as an independent nation. However, the federal government rejected the Ethiopia-Somaliland port deal.
Somalia and Saudi Arabia share a deep relationship, with the people and government of Somalia appreciating the support received from Saudi Arabia during past droughts and conflicts.
