Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud returned to Dhusamareeb, the capital of Galmudug state, on Monday, aiming to intensify the ongoing anti-al-Shabab military operations in the central Somali regions.
Galmudug State President Ahmed Abdi Kariye, lawmakers, and members of the government councils warmly welcomed President Mohamud and his delegation at the airport.
President Mohamud has spent several months in Dhusamareb, actively supporting and encouraging the troops involved in the military offensive. During this time, the army liberated several major towns and villages in Galmudug and Hirshabelle.
In August 2022, President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud launched what he called a “total war” against al-Shabab. In the first phase, Somali forces, backed by local militia, took control of al-Shabab-ruled areas in the central regions of Hiiran and Middle Shabelle.
