The President of the Federal Republic of Somalia, Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, has yesterday appointed Hamsa Abdi Barre, a Member of Parliament, as the new Prime Minister of Somalia.
President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, speaking at a joint news conference with the new prime minister, said Hamse was the best candidate for the post.
The Somali president called on parliament to approve the new prime minister as soon as possible, so that the country can have a new government.
He urged the prime minister to focus on priority issues such as drought relief, security, reconciliation and community development.
The new Prime Minister, Hamse Abdi Barre, accepted the appointment and pledged to build a capable government that will save the country and its people and work for the re-establishment of Somalia.
He said his government will focus on completing the constitutional review, accessing justice, developing the country’s economy and creating jobs for Somali youth.
Prime Minister Hamse’s nomination has already been discussed and he is expected to appear before the Somali parliament on Saturday to ask for a vote of confidence.
