Save the Children has called on the international community to provide urgent humanitarian assistance to Ethiopia, Somalia and Kenya where at least 16 million people are at risk of starvation due to the worst drought in years.
According to Save the Children, an estimated 16 million people, including many children are in urgent need of food aid, especially in Ethiopia, Somalia and Kenya which had three consecutive failed rainy seasons.
6 to 6.5 million of these people are in Ethiopia, 3.5 in Kenya, and 6 million in Somalia.
Save the Children says that unless urgent action is taken in the Horn of Africa, 1.4 million children could face severe malnutrition by the middle of this year.
