Residents of Kismayo in the Jubbaland state of Somalia have expressed concern over the high cost of air travel to the country’s regions and its neighboring countries.

The fare for a flight from the port city of Kismayo to the Somali capital, Mogadishu is $130 while a flight to Dhobley in the Lower Juba region costs $100.

Kismayo’s Sayid Mohamed Abdulle Hassan International Airport Authority has recently ordered airline officials to reduce flight cost for domestic and international flights.

The General manager of Kismayo’s Sayid Mohamed Abdulle Hassan International Airport, Abdullahi Aden Mohamud Jagadon has today morning made an impromptu visit to the airport in a bid to inspect the implementation of the discount order given to the airlines as well as assess the general operations of the airport.

The Kismayo Airport Manager noted that legal action will be taken against flight companies that fail to reduce fares for flights from departing from Kismayo.

Speaking to Radio Kismayo on phone, dozens of flight passengers at Sayid Mohamed Abdulle Hassan International Airport in Kismayo have expressed displeasure with the flight cost even after the recent order to lower down the air fare.

The disgruntled flight passengers said they still board the plane for $130 to Mogadishu and 100 dollars to Dhobley.

They called on the airport authorities to see to it that the domestic flight cost has been lowered.
