Nearly 8,500 U.S. troops are on high alert as the crisis in Ukraine escalates, according to the Pentagon.
The news comes as Russia denies any military action against Ukraine, despite deploying 100,000 troops along the border.
President Biden is scheduled to hold telephone talks with his European allies to discuss the possible invasion of Russia.
The Pentagon says it has not yet decided whether to send troops to Europe.
