Somali security forces have carried out an operation to clear roadblocks between Lower Shabelle and Shalanbood districts in Lower Shabelle region of Somalia.
Hundreds of armed robbers were apprehended at roadblocks, extorting money from motorists and robbing civilians on the roads.
Officials who led the operation at the checkpoints told the media that 290 bandits were apprehended at roadblocks between Number Fifty and Shalanbood areas.
The officials also said that they are looking for other gangs who escaped into the jungle, they indicated that they are being pursued by the federal government forces and will be arrested.
Some of the road users said they were being harassed by the bandits at checkpoints, charged exorbitantly and robbed at gunpoint
The bandits are also said to have been robbing the occupants of vehicles along the roads.
