A statement from members of the international community expressed concern over the decision by the Somali Ministry of Security, particularly Minister Abdullahi Mohamed Nur, regarding the withdrawal of NISA forces from Mogadishu airport fully administered by the Somali Police Force.

A statement from the US embassy informed Prime Minister Mohamed Hussein Roble that the move by the security minister at the airport was “worrying”.

Last night, it was also reported that the US Embassy had telephoned the Prime Minister and the Minister of Security, requesting the Minister to clarify their statements and intentions as the parties were instructed to be open only to the election process.

“Changes related to the NISA forces operating at Aden Adde International Airport in Moadishu only apply to the NISA officers operating inside the Terminal. It does not apply to the forces controlling the checkpoints at Aden Adde International Airport,” Said Security Minister Abdullahi Mohamed Nur in a statement.

The Security minister also issued a statement announcing that the decision to withdraw NISA officers from Mogadishu airport was made following a growing number of complaints from government agencies operating inside the airport.

He noted that the NISA officers have committed acts of violence and intimidation, for which there was evidence.
