There has been a lot of talk on social media recently over reports of the Turkish government alleged provision of drones to Somalia or at the request of Somali President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo, but this has been denied by Villa Somalia.

Presidential Director of Information, Abdirashid Mohamed Hashi said the meeting between the Presidents of Somalia and Turkey only discussed security and the fight against Al-Shabaab terror group, denying that President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo had requested drones from President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

He added that the Turkish government has trained and equipped the Somali armed forces in the best possible way and that Turkey is the first country to provide security assistance to Somalia, which is not a secret.

Speaking further, the Director of Information of the Somali Presidency, Abdirashid Mohamed Hashi said that the governments of Somalia and Turkey are united in the war on terror on Al-Shabaab and are in line with the international community’s fight against the Al-Qaeda affiliated Al-Shabaab terror militants.

The Turkish government is assisting Somalia in rebuilding the country’s armed forces, training a large number of its officers and troops, and providing weapons and ammunition to Somalia.
