The chairman of the Electoral Disputes Resolution Committee, Hussein Mohamed Mohamud, has today spoke to the media in Mogadishu saying that the Committee is working to fulfill its mandate but it is currently under intense pressure from various quarters.

He said during the run-up to the by-elections, a controversy has erupted as many people put pressure on various parties to jeopardize the committee’s work claiming the committee is not independent and neutral.

The chairman pointed out that there is no specific group the dispute resolution Committee is working with and that they are a neutral national commission.

He said members of the Somali Presidential Candidates’ Union had criticized their work and thus undermining the Committee’s work for the community.

He called on the Union of Presidential Candidates to come forward and face the committe if they have any grievances.

“The Union of Candidates is making unfair criticism, you are the leaders of tomorrow. Kindly ask us everything and anything before you criticize us,” said the chairman of the Dispute Resolution Committee.
