US donates $ 2 million to alleviate the effects of drought in Somalia

At a time when many parts of Somalia is currently experiencing severe drought situation that has affected people and their livestock, the United States has donated funds to Somalia to address the ravaging drought.

The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) has announced a $ 2 million donation to Somalia to alleviate the effects of drought and famine in southern Somalia.

The United States has not announced the exact location of the funding but its aim is to help Somalia respond to the drought in some parts of southern and central Somalia.

Many international organizations have already provided funds for drought relief but this year the drought comes at a time when Somalia is in the midst of elections.

Drought has affected people as well as livestock in many parts of southern and central Somalia with the Somali government and regional governments failing to play a role in providing relief to those affected by the drought.
