UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres is due to brief UN Security Council members on the latest developments in the Ethiopian conflict today. Antonio Guterres will focus on the recent expulsion of seven senior UN aid officials from Ethiopia.

It is the second Security Council meeting on Ethiopia in less than a week, since Prime Minister Abi Ahmed announced on September 30 that UN officials would leave the country within 72 hours.

Ethiopia has accused the officials of interfering in its internal affairs and providing aid and communications equipment to the Tigray Liberation Front (TPLF), which the federal government has been fighting since the end of the year.

The United Nations confirmed on Monday that the officers had left Ethiopia.
