In Garowe, the capital of Puntland State of Somalia, the House of Representatives has convened today, approving a motion submitted by the Speaker.
The motion from the presidency was that the Speaker and MPs could lose parliamentary immunity to the votes of 44 of Puntland’s 66 members of parliament, as well as the president and vice president of Puntland.
The approval of the law also comes at a time when the Puntland House of Representatives has already ousted its former Speaker Abdihakin Dhobo-Dare, and stripped eight MPs of their parliamentary immunity.
