Somali Premier appoints election commission

The Prime Minister of the Federal Government of Somalia Mohamed Hussein Roble has last night appointed a High Technical Committee to support the country’s elections.

In a decree issued by Prime Minister Mohamed Hussein Roble, has named the 7-member Technical Committee to support the Prime Minister’s Office in the upcoming elections.

This commission is responsible for coordinating all electoral activities of the relevant institutions, such as the International Community, the National Consultative Assembly and other Electoral Commissions at the Federal and State Levels.

The committee, appointed by the Prime Minister is being chaired by Abdulkadir Cimi Ali, and includes Omar Mohamed Abdulle, who once served as chairman of the 2016 Electoral Commission.

The appointment of the Electoral Technical Committee comes amid controversy over Prime Minister Roble’s handling of the elections.
