
The Jubbaland administration has clarified its position on the outcome of the recent African Union (AU) Security Council meeting in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, on the situation in Somalia.
A statement from Jubbaland regional state welcomed the African Union’s resolutions, including condemning the extension of the term of parliament and government institutions, and calling for a return to electoral talks.
“Jubbaland welcomes the efforts of the International Friends of Somalia and the communiqué issued by the African Union Security Council on 22 April 2021, and I believe that the September 17 elections agreement is the best way to achieve credible elections, “Said the statement from Jubbaland state.
Most of the issues raised at the AU Peace and Security Council meeting were opposed by the Somali government which said they were detrimental to Somalia’s sovereignty.
