Cabinet holds emergency meeting on drought situation in Somalia

The Deputy Prime Minister of the federal republic of Somalia Mahdi Mohamed Guled yesterday chaired an emergency Cabinet meeting, which focused on the drought situation in the country and how to provide relief to those affected by the drought and water shortages. The meeting was held virtually.

Reports from the government’s Drought Relief Committee chaired by Somalia’s Minister of Finance Abdirahman Duale Beyle, briefed the Cabinet on the state of emergency in Juba and Gedo regions, which were severely affected by the raging drought causing death and widespread panic.

The Council of Ministers called for immediate humanitarian assistance to the families affected by the water crisis.
