Ethiopian police seize large cache of weapons smuggled into Addis Ababa

Police in the Ethiopian capital, Addis Ababa, say they have seized weapons smuggled into Addis Ababa.

The large cache of weapons includes BKM rifles, AK-47 Assault rifles, pistols and 5,000 rounds of ammunition.

The weapons were seized following an investigation by intelligence and security agencies in the country.

The weapons were being ferried in an Isuzu truck coming from Gondar, Amhara region, and were disguised as ordinary items on board.

Police say they have arrested two men who were smuggling the weapons into Addis Ababa. The owners of the weapons are said to have not yet been identified by the police and security agencies.

However, the police called on the public to co-operate with the security agencies and report any suspicious activities to the police.

On several occasions, Addis Ababa police have seized a variety of clandestine weapons being smuggled into the Ethiopian capital.
