The Jubbaland Ministry of Education, in collaboration with Mercy Corps and UNHCR, has jointly launched an education project to provide scholarships for children returning from the Dadaab refugee camps in Kenya.
The project will benefit children returning from the Dadaab refugee camps and children from poor families in Kismayo, Afmadow and Dhobley districts.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by Kismayo district school officials who were invited to the inaugural meeting of the education project.
Abdullahi Salah Cubda, Kismayo District Commissioner for Education, who inaugurated the project, said it was gratifying that these children were receiving free educatio. He said that the children who had returned to Jubbaland with their first families would already have access to education services to build their future.
He said the project is for children who have recently returned from refugee camps in Kenya.
He also thanked the organizations that have been involved in educating the children, including Mercy Corps and the UNHCR for launching the program in 2014
