The daughter of former Ethiopian Prime Minister Meles Zenawi has been arrested, her mother has announced.
Semahal Meles was arrested in Maqalle, the capital of Tigray state, Azeb Mesfin, Meles Zenawi’s widow, confirmed to the media.
Ethiopia’s military government took over in Mekelle in late November after three weeks of fighting ended between them and forces loyal to the party in Tigray TPLF.
Semahal traveled to Maqalle before the war to do research on a film produced by her father Zenawi, a prominent figure in the Tigray tribe and the long-ruling TPLF party.
Meles ruled Ethiopia from the early 1990s until his death in 2012.
