At least 1,000 Kenya Defense Forces (KDF) soldiers are undergoing combat training provided by the British government officials before they are being deployed to Somalia in January 2021.

The troops are being trained in guerrilla warfare tactics used by Al Shabaab in preparation for joining the African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM).

The mandate of the African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM) is set to expire in 2021 and reports suggest that it will not be possible for AMISOM troops to withdraw from Somalia at that time.

The British government has promised to train Kenyan troops to fight the Al-Qaeda-linked Al-Shabaab terror group.

Lessons taught include explosives investigation dealing with surrendered Al-shabab prisoners and suicide bombings.

The British military training for Kenyan defense forces is the result of a strategic partnership between Kenyan Defense Secretary Monicah Juma and her UK counterpart Ben Wallace in September 2019.
