The President of the Jubaland State of Somalia Ahmed Mohamed Islam has today addressed the members of the Upper House of the Federal Parliament of Somalia.
The President briefed the lawmakers on the situation in Jubbaland state saying that since the presidential election in Jubaland that saw him win another round came with improved situation in the Jubbaland regional state of Somalia.
The Jubbaland head of State said that the dispute over the disputed Jubbaland elections had been resolved and that things are now on top gears for the state.
On the hot issue of Gedo region, the President said he was optimistic that solutions would be reached during his stay in Mogadishu which he said was key to reaching a lasting solution to the long-running conflict between Jubaland and the Federal Government on the issue of Gedo.
On elections, the Jubbaland state President said that the recent Dhusamareb conferences had made great efforts and strides to reach a consensus but the promises and the outcome of the conferences had not materialized and that a combination of circumstances had not led to the third phase of the conference which the Jubbaland President did not attend.
The President said that he came to Mogadishu to reach a far reaching final solution and thanked in particular the Upper House for standing by the political settlement.
In terms of the status of the capital and its representation, the Jubbaland President pointed out that it needs to stand together as it has been a slow process and nothing has been done to revise the Constitution.
