Benadir Regional Court Slaps Hefty Sentences And Fines To Health Ministry Officials Accused Of Public Funds Embezzlement

The Benadir Regional Court has today handed down various sentences to officials and employees of the Federal Ministry of Health who were accused of embezzling public funds in Mogadishu.

Relatives of the accused and witnesses were packed inside the Benadir Regional Court to hear the verdict of the Benadir Regional Court on the cases.

Some of the officials have been sentenced to serve prison terms while others have been acquitted of the charges and released.

The charged officials were;

1: Director of the Ministry of Health, Abdullahi Hashi Ali charged with theft of public funds, sentenced to 9 years in prison and fined $2366 Dollars.

2:Administration and Finance Departmental head of the Ministry of Health, Mohamud Bule Mohamud, convicted of theft of public funds and sentenced to 18 years in prison and fined $2366 Dollars.

3: Head of Accounts at the Ministry of Health, Mahdi Abshir Mohamed in charge of Health Awareness Project, convicted of theft of public funds and sentenced to 12 years in prison and a $2366 Dollar fine.

4: Head of the malaria project at the Ministry of Health, Bashir Abdi Noor, charged with embezzlement of public funds and sentenced to three years in prison and fined $1183 Dollars.

Meanwhile, the Benadir Regional Court has ordered the release of five other officials from the Somali Federal Ministry of Health who have been acquitted of the various charges levelled against them in the massive funds embezzlement scandal within the Health ministry.
