More than 4,000 people have died of Coronavirus disease in Brazil in the last 24 hours, making it the deadliest single-day loss in South America’s largest country.

The Brazilian Ministry of Health announced on Tuesday that 4,195 people have died of COVID-19 in the last 24 hours across the country.

The ministry said the death toll had been rising since February this year. The spread of the virus has been on the rise for the past few months.

Brazilian health experts attribute this to the proliferation of new forms of the disease and the fact that people do not apply the social distancing rule and wearing of face masks in public.

If the situation continues like this, researchers predict that Brazil will be the deadliest country for COVID-19 worldwide.

The United States remains in the lead, with more than 555,000 deaths from the disease, while Brazil has nearly 337,000 deaths.
