Talks between Heads of regional state and Government in Afisiyoni tent resume in Mogadishu

The regional state heads meeting in Afisiyoni tent in Somalia’s capital, Mogadishu is set to resume today after taking a breather yesterday.

The meeting which began on Saturday was adjourned yesterday and in today’s resumption of the talks, the Somali political leaders will discuss the agenda for the opening of the electoral consultative conference and those who will be in attendance.

During the meeting at the Afisiyoni Tent, there were reports that the leaders were at loggerheads over who would attend the election conference. The Presidents of Puntland and Jubbaland regional state have demanded that all political stakeholders attend the major conference.

Representatives of the international community are keeping an eye on the Afisiyoni Tent conference, pressuring the leaders to reach an agreement that could facilitate the opening of the Electoral Consultative Conference.

This comes against a backdrop of sanction threats by the UN security council on leaders who prove to be an impediment to the Somali poll.
