The Jubbaland Ministry of Minerals, Energy and Water has today received 4 water trucks from the German Ministry of Cooperation and Development BMZ (GIZ) in a bid to boost water needs in the port city of Kismayu.
The 10,000 Litre capacity water tankers are designed to address the water needs of the people of Kismayu especially those in Midnimo and Medina neighborhoods who are experiencing widespread water shortages.
GIZ Project Coordinator Sirat Mohamed Ali told the media that the 4 water tankers had been handed over to the Jubbaland Ministry of Water to aid in water distribution.
“These tankers were bought by GIZ, paid for by Germany government and we want the ministry of Energy and water to do its job and benefits the people,” Said Sirad Mohamed
The Jubbaland Minister for Minerals, Energy and Water Abdirahman Mohamed Muhumed who spoke at the event said the project was to receive tankers that the ministry had previously requested from GIZ to meet the water needs of Kismayo residents of Kismayu.
“These tankers are today being handed over to our ministry to serve the community and will go along way in meeting the water needs of the Jubbaland community,” Said Abdirahman Mohamed Muhumed.
This is the first time such large capacity water tankers has been handed over to the Jubbaland Ministry of Energy, Minerals and Water Resources.
